BEAMA welcomes the publication this week of publication of European Standard (EN) 303 645 on cyber security for consumer Internet of Things (IoT). This globally applicable standard establishes a security baseline for internet-connected consumer products and provides a common basis for future IoT certification schemes. This is the product of strong collaboration with international industry and government organisations, united by a passion to enable the IoT to grow, whilst keeping its users safe.
EN 303 645 provides a comprehensive set of security provisions for consumer IoT manufacturers to implement, such as implementing vulnerability disclosure policy or explicitly stating for how long products will receive security updates and beyond.
This is important information for all manufacturers of smart and connected products.
