Working Together for Safe Electrical Installation Products Across Europe

03 March 2021

Sadly, each year in Europe an average of 1,300 people die across Europe from electrocution or the effects of electrical fires* That approximately equates to three people every day.

In addition, the resulting cost in terms of the disruption caused is estimated to be in the region of €6.25 Billion.

BEAMA, the manufacturers trade association for the electro - technical sector in the UK are also members of a European Trade Association called CECAPI which includes several National Associations and leading associate member manufacturing companies across Europe.

To raise awareness of the potential fire and electrocution risks associated with non-compliant electrical products across Europe, MSSI Electrical (Market Surveillance and Support Initiative) is a CECAPI initiative to heighten the awareness of these risks.

One of the initiatives undertaken by MSSI Electrical has been to produce a five-minute video aimed primarily at electrical wholesalers, importers, and installers to highlight the risks associated with non-compliant electrical installation products.

The overriding message is “Don’t let non-compliant electrical installation products lead to a death. Always ensure that the products that you sell, and install are compliant.”

The video goes on to explain the simple checks that can be made to ensure that only compliant products are chosen.

The video can be veiwed here

To support this activity BEAMA have also produced a number of Product Safety Check Lists which can accessed here websites.
