Updates to EPREL Database

22 February 2019

The European Commission has implemented a new version of EPREL in the PRODUCTION environment on Friday, 22 February. The EPREL Database can be accessed here: https://energy-label.ec.europa.eu

This new version improves issues found by suppliers and some new functionalities:

New Product information sheets will now be available for the following product groups:

  •          Water heaters – Solar devices
  •          Space heaters – Temperature controls
  • Please verify that the information shown in the PDF generated is correct and shown according to the Delegated Regulations.

UI and file upload: please note that some validations or modifications have been applied for products within the OP scope:

  • Space heaters – solar device
  • Water heaters – solar device
  • Water heaters
  • Residential ventilation units
  • Professional refrigerated storage cabinets
  • Water heaters – hot storage tanks

New functionalities

  • Warning/error messages are now shown as a small screen that needs to be closed manually. This will assist users in recognising when something has gone wrong and to take appropriate actions
  • Users with the role of “Supplier Admin” can now change the role of other users (but cannot change his own role). A notification will be sent to the users to inform about the change in role.
  • All the lists in the pages are sortable by all columns and the lists are limited to 20 records. Navigation buttons allow to move to First 20, Previous 20, Next 20 and Last 20. This improves the performance of the pages when big amounts of data is shown.
  •         Equivalent models: Some restrictions and improvements have been added to this functionality:
    • Supplier cannot create equivalent models from a base model in status “Incomplete” anymore using the UI. Base models have to be “Complete” or “Published” always. This will avoid issues when editing the base model and equivalents not being synchronised.
    • If supplier is editing a base model in status “Complete” and due to this edition the model will become “Incomplete”, the system will not allow him to save the changes. Base models cannot be “Incomplete” to avoid issues when synchronising its equivalent models.
    • Field “EU Eco-label” will never be copied from base model to equivalent models. It is a characteristic specific to each model.
    • Some specific fields will be copied only on creation of the equivalent models. They will not be synchronised if modified afterwards in the base model. These fields are specific of each model (basically textual fields) and they can be edited in the equivalents if they need to be different from the base model using the UI. If they are exactly the same as the base model, the supplier will have to edit them individually in each equivalent when changing them in the base model. The fields apply to the following product groups:
      • Air conditioners
      • Residential ventilation units
      • Solid fuel boilers
      • Water heaters
      • Space heaters
      • Local space heaters

New guidelines: now cover all the functionalities of the UI, file upload and system-to-system. They’re available here: https://webgate.ec.europa.eu/fpfis/wikis/display/EPREL/EPREL+Guidelines

Next steps:

  •          Implementation of a number of minor new functionalities and cosmetic improvements.
  •          Implementation of more labels and product information sheets.
  •          Deletion of all vacuum cleaner information from the database and related files (labels and technical documentation)
  •          Improvement of synchronisation of base model data and its equivalent models.
  •          Bug fixing.

2019-01-31 BEAMA member questions on use of new database

We recently had a meeting with some of our members and they provided some feedback to us on the new Energy Labelling Database. Please fidn below these questions/ comments and the reply we have recieved so far from APPliA our EU trade association who are working closely with the Commission in helping to iron out these problems.

  • Use of Chrome – many companies don’t allow the use of chrome due to data and security reasons.  The database appears to only work in Chrome and for some members this is incredibly challenging.

We have members using Firefox or IE, so Chrome is not the only web browser compatible with the DB. Maybe your members should verify if their version is the most up-to-date or check with their IT people if there is any restriction.

  • For some companies who have many (100s) of products to upload they are keen to know if there is a template through which they can do bulk or easier uploads.  Doing it one by one is incredibly time consuming.

The zip upload can somehow ease this consuming task. As of 1 Feb, the system-to-sytem (using eDelivery) should be available, making companies’ life much easier.

  • A couple of members reported entering in all the data,  and then at the end when this was submitted the site said ‘could not complete’  and they had to start all over again.  This appeared to be some kind of fault.  Again this could make uploading data very difficult for companies.

A new version of the exchange model was released 10 days ago and it provided an “update” to this issue: if the status is « not complete », the missing/wrong field should be highlighted.

We continue to encourage BEAMA members to feedback on the use of the new database.  Teathing problems can be expected with a new platform like this and it is important we can communicate these back to the Commission on our member's behalf.
