UKCA labelling extension

03 September 2021

Following the extension of the deadline for mandatory UKCA marking to 1st January 2023, BEIS has just announced that a further 12 month period of the “labelling easement” has been provided. This means that until 1st January 2024 you can place the UKCA marking by use of a sticky label, on the packaging or an accompanying document such as manuals or sales documents rather than as a permanent marking directly on the product. This is welcomed and follows BEAMA’s lobbying although you should also note that where the size and dimensions of the product are such that it is not practicable to affix the marking directly to the product, it can be affixed to the packaging or documentation already under CE marking regulations and guidance and this will continue for UKCA. We are informed that the extension to the labelling easement does not change the existing requirement to provide Importer name and address on the product, packaging or documentation where the product is imported into Great Britain.
