Continued Suspension of Customs Controls for Ireland to GB Trade

15 December 2021

The Government has just announced (15th December 2021) that the normal customs controls on imports of Goods into Great Britain from the EU that will apply from 1st January 2022 will continue to be suspended for the island of Ireland (i.e. RoI and NI).

This applies to customs, sanitary & phyto-sanitary and safety & security declarations.  This reflects the continuing UK-EU negotiations over the practical operation of the Northern Ireland Protocol that will now extend into 2022.  The announcement is here: https://questions-statements.parliament.uk/written-statements/detail/2021-12-15/hlws473
