Joint industry letter regarding concerns over Energy Labelling Database

30 April 2018

Many European Associations that BEAMA is a member of (e.g. CECED, EHI, EHPA, EVIA…) have produced a joint letter, still in draft form, expressing their concerns over the timeline of this project. For further background on the Energy Labelling Database, please refer to the report on the stakeholder meeting that BEAMA attended last year (please see below), which includes mock-ups of what the database would look like, as well as that latest H&V Policy Briefing (available in the members’ area of the group).

The final database must be published by 1st of January 2019 - allowing access for Market Surveillance Authorities then. Before that, the following milestones are planned:

•           1st March first screen mock ups to be made available with most features

•           1st September 2018 ‘acceptance site’ made available - industry can use this to test the site and upload data before it goes live.

•           1st November 2018 – registrations can start – this is for suppliers to start uploading their registered products onto the final database for the go live on the 1st Jan 2019. (All stakeholders commented that these end timescales do not give the commission enough time to tackle any issues with the database that are likely to come to light during the ‘acceptance site’ phase.

BEAMA's impression from the meeting, as well as that of many other stakeholders, is that these end timescales do not give the Commission enough time to tackle any issues with the database that are likely to come to light during the ‘acceptance site’ phase. Similarly, a joint industry paper has gone out from CECED and other EU trade bodies (20+) to push for pilot sites to be made available sooner. On this basis, BEAMA would be in favour of the various European Associations signing this joint letter.
