Final review study published (Tasks 1-7)

31 May 2019

The consultant (VHK) have recently published the final draft of the local space heaters review study (attached below). A summary outlining the most significant findings and recommendations can also be found below.

The main recommendations focus on closing some of the loopholes identified, such as those arising from the definitions of local space heater, portable local space heater and slave heater. With regards to the latter, the consultant recommends that the definition and exemption of slave heaters is removed, and information requirements are added to all heaters and controls sold unbundled to provide clear instructions on the necessary functions of external controls to meet the Ecodesign requirements. This is in line with industry’s position and therefore a positive step forward.

Lastly, the addition of further correction factors, such as automatic programming and control accuracy, have not been recommended to be included following concerns expressed by industry. Further information can be found in the attachments.
