BEAMA’s Role in Heating Controls
Heating controls have long been recognised as one of the top energy efficiency measures for reducing energy use and customer bills. Time and temperature control have always been an essential factor in heating system efficiency, and along with zone strategies (e.g. smart and analogue Thermostatic Radiator Valves) and compensating controls, there are a very wide range of options for customers to choose from.
Our work at BEAMA always starts its journey with the core principle of heating control. We have guidance for installers and specifiers as well as advice to policy makers, including in emerging areas such as new product labelling frameworks or the growth of new technology areas such as heat pumps.
Controls Guide for Air to Water Heat Pumps
Heat pumps are rapidly becoming the normalised option for heating homes and buildings in the UK. With the market estimated to reach over ½m units per year by 2030, BEAMA and its members are evolving guidance to fit this new technology mix.
This guide is part of an evolution for system guidance, intended to assist domestic heat pump installers with considerations for controls strategies in various applications in a way that ensures compliance with Building Regulations Approved Document L. It provides a general approach which could be taken for new and existing hydronic heat pump only systems (note: bi-valent and hybrid systems are not included in scope). Additional considerations may be required for underfloor heating systems or non-radiator solutions.
