The benefits of underfloor heating

01 Jun 2026

Underfloor heating (UFH) delivers high levels of comfort and energy efficiency in the home and is the preferred emitter choice for many self-builders. It is also widely used in commercial buildings, where HVAC performance is increasingly considered as part of a whole system approach.

UFH can be installed in both new build and retrofit projects, with modern systems designed to work across a wide range of floor constructions and coverings. In addition, the same installed system can often support broader building performance goals, including helping to mitigate overheating during warmer months.

One of the key advantages of UFH is design freedom. With no need for wall mounted radiators, architects and designers have greater flexibility in room layouts, glazing design and window placement, supporting more open and efficient use of space.

Despite these benefits, some misconceptions remain; often based on outdated information around cost and system operation. These can lead to missed opportunities for improved performance, enhanced comfort and stronger client satisfaction.
