UKCA Designated Standards
04 December 2020
The Government has today published the planned approach to Designated Standards, which will replace for UKCA marking the system of European Harmonised Standards (hENs) used to prove conformity with regulatory requirements for CE marking

Contrary to previous guidance, these will not all come with a BS prefix and may not be a standard adopted by BSI but can also be directly from the recognised European (CEN, Cenelec, ETSI) and International (ISO, IEC, ITU) standardisation bodies. Although all Harmonised Standards in place at the end of 2020 will become Designated Standards for proving conformity, the process for designating future standards is very loosely described: “From 1 January 2021, when deciding if a standard is appropriate for designation, the government will check how far the standard covers the various essential requirements set out in the relevant legislation. The government may decide not to designate or to designate with restriction.”
As the premier contributing organisation to BSI, BEAMA will continue to press for the highest level of involvement in the process of assessing and designating standards affecting our industry.
