Upgrading the UK’s electricity networks is about more than infrastructure, it’s a defining opportunity to lead the global transition to clean, electrified economies while unlocking growth across UK industry.
This two-page overview highlights the first steps in a new, collaborative effort between Energy Networks Association and BEAMA to develop a comprehensive Electricity Networks Sector Growth Plan. For the first time, networks and their supply chains are working together to shape a shared vision for investment, jobs, and long-term economic value.
The opportunity is significant. Network expansion will require a major increase in equipment, infrastructure, and skilled workers, supporting tens of thousands of jobs across transmission, distribution, and the wider supply chain. From transformers and cables to advanced control systems, UK businesses are well positioned to play a leading role.
This snapshot sets out the direction of travel. The full Growth Plan will go further: quantifying the economic potential of network investment, identifying how to strengthen UK manufacturing capability, and mapping the workforce needed to deliver the transition.
