BEAMA will be hosting a webinar to conclude the release of the updated AFDD Guide and associated facts sheets. Since their inclusion within BS 7671 in the 17th Edition and now 18th edition there has been a lot of negative press, misunderstanding, misconception and in some cases false claims made about the technology.

The fact sheets were developed to educate the supply chain, designers and specifiers on this potentially lifesaving device. The webinar, aimed to inform electrical contractors / installers, will focus heavily of the Myths and a Q&A session with those experts who are on JPEL64 panels, and Product Standard Development for BS EN 62606.

In March 2022 BS 7671:2018+A2:2022 (AKA amendment 2) was released, and could be implemented immediately until September 27th when BS7671:2018+A1:202 (aka amendment 1) was withdrawn.

BS 7671:2018+A2:2022 includes requirements for the protection of persons, livestock and property against fire caused by electrical equipment, against burns and against overheating, together with precautions where particular risks of fire exist. It is now a requirement for some types of installation, (rather than a recommendation as it was in previous editions) to protect final circuits supplying socket-outlets and fixed current-using equipment with a rated current not exceeding 32 A by Arc Fault Detection Devices (AFDDs).
