New Market Surveillance Support Initiative

18 Mar 2016

The drive to eliminate unsafe and non-compliant products across Europe was bolstered on March 14th when the ‘Market Surveillance Support Initiative’ was launched at the Frankfurt Light & Building fair.

Dr Howard Porter, CEO of BEAMA and the Chairman of the ORGALINE Board (the organisation providing the legal basis for the industry led initiative to protect consumers from non-compliant electrical products) was the key note speaker at the launch event of the MSSI. Dr Porter said that ‘this initiative has the full support of the business leaders from the main European companies, all agreeing that the safety of end users electrical systems is critical. In the UK BEAMA has already started to act on these issues, and the launch of MSSI will give these activities great support.

For many years BEAMA has been working hard with the supply chain to forge agreements and action against counterfeit and non-compliant products and is delighted to work with its EU partners CECAPI and CAPIEL in the launch of a web portal that will be the gateway to information and training resources targeted towards supply chain operators, customs and Governments.

The initiative is supported by many brands including ABB, Eaton, Legrand, Schneider Electric, Hager and Siemens and covers a broad range of electrical equipment such as switches, circuit breakers, RCDs, arc fault products, cable management systems and home, building and process electronic systems – all for commercial, residential and industrial applications.

The overall objective of MSSI is to ensure 100% of products used across Europe are safe and compliant.
