BIS has now launched its consultation on the transposition into UK law of a number of changes made to these directives and published last year. The changes will come into effect across the EU in April 2016. The BIS consultation runs until Sept 29th. It covers 9 directives in total, of which the above four are of particular interest to us, and the BEAMA open meeting held on 1st September agreed some key principles to include in the BEAMA response. In particular highlighting the not insignificant one-off costs of changing tooling to accommodate new marking requirements, and the need for market surveillance to really keep up, or reputable businesses will be incurring these additional costs for little benefit.

The draft response with these changes is now on the website. This BEAMA paper includes a BEAMA summary of the background, and some (BEAMA) interpretive guidance on the alignment changes to the Directives and their intent, as this is a major revision of UK implementing legislation.
