Energy Systems Catapult and BEAMA formalise Joint Working

16 Mar 2017

On Wednesday March 15th 2017, at an event in Birmingham, the Chief Executives of the Energy Systems Catapult and BEAMA signed an agreement to work jointly to benefit the energy industry.

In front of more than 100 guests, at the official opening ceremony of the Catapult’s office- Cannon House, both Philip New, of the Energy Systems Catapult, and Dr Howard Porter, of BEAMA, outlined the benefits and opportunities that the agreement will bring for innovators across the energy sector. One key element of the agreement is that both parties will work together to address current and emerging energy market challenges.

Philip New said:

“It’s exciting to mark the official opening of our new office in Birmingham with the signing of this collaboration agreement with BEAMA. The energy revolution is happening – and it is only through collaboration - with industry, policy-makers, academia and customers - that we can achieve real, exponential change in creating a cleaner, smarter and fairer energy system. I really do look forward to working with BEAMA and jointly exploring and exploiting the opportunities that arise to benefit the industry.”

As part of the agreement the Catapult will become a member of the strategic BEAMA Energy Systems group. The two organisations will also seek to deliver joint project opportunities and will share best practice, initiatives and experience.

Dr Howard Porter added:

“BEAMA believes that working with the Energy Systems Catapult will greatly assist the move of the UK’s energy system to become smarter, allowing greater levels of clean renewable energy onto the grid, and helping to manage the energy bills for householders and businesses. The manufacturers of the equipment for the electricity grid and within all building types will provide the technology to deliver the low carbon networks of the future.”

The two organisations are already collaborating on a range of areas including a potential project for the Midlands engine, an industry led sector plan on Low Carbon Digital buildings and electricity networks, as well as exploring ways to assist UK energy innovators to better access international markets.
