BEAMA launches new Technical Product Guides & Bulletins to coincide with the publication of the 18th Edition of the Wiring Regulations

To coincide with the publication of the 18th Edition of the Wiring Regulations on the 2nd July 2018 BEAMA published a series of Guides and Bulletins. An explanation for each guide / bulletin is detailed below.

Technical Bulletin: Overload protection of an RCCB or switch in an LV assembly to BS EN 61439-3.

BS 7671: 2018 IET Wiring Regulations 18th Edition specifies requirements for overload protection of an RCCB or switch in an LV assembly, Regulations 536.4.3.2, 536.4.5 and 536.4.202 refer. This bulletin provides guidance for RCCB and switch overload protection.

Technical Bulletin: Coordination of wiring accessories, low voltage switchgear and controlgear assemblies with conductors operating at a temperature exceeding 70 °C e.g. XLPE.

This bulletin provides guidance on Regulation 512.1.5 of BS 7671: 2018 IET Wiring Regulations 18th Edition.

BEAMA Guide to Arc Fault Detection Devices (AFDDs):

Arc Fault Detection Devices represents a new category of additional protection against fire caused by arc faults in AC final circuits. BS 7671: 2018 IET Wiring Regulations 18th Edition recommends the use of AFDDs  for certain applications. This BEAMA guide provides detailed technical information and application guidance for AFDDs in electrical installations.

The RCD Handbook: BEAMA Guide to the selection and application of Residual Current Devices (RCDs):

This Guide provides specifiers, installers and end users, clear guidance on the selection and application of the wide range of RCDs now available. It details the specific applications of Types AC, A, F and B RCDs which are now recognised in BS 7671: 2018 IET Wiring Regulations 18th Edition. Guidance is also given on the installation and maintenance of RCDs, including many of the installation conditions that cause ‘unwanted tripping’.

BEAMA Guide to Surge Protection Devices (SPDs) – Selection, Application and Theory:

This Guide is intended as a practical guide for designers, specifiers and installers to enable them to comply with surge protection requirements in BS 7671: 2018 IET Wiring Regulations 18th Edition.
