Electric Vehicle Infrastructure Project

BEAMAs Electric Vehicle Infrastructure Project (BEVIP) has been established to co-ordinate a programme of work to enhance the presence of our members in the rapidly emerging electric vehicle industry, identifying and helping to remove market barriers.

Background
BEAMA recognises the market potential for the electro-technical industry, in the development of a robust and interoperable infrastructure to support a mass market of EVs, a reason why BEAMA and our members saw the need to establish BEVIP.

The project was launched at BEAMA’s Low Carbon Conference on the 15th of March 2011. For more information on the content of this conference click here. The launch was a great success and with the six founding BEVIP members and a full time project co-ordinator the project has achieved a great deal to date. The founding BEVIP members are:

Cooper Bussman (UK) Ltd
Eaton
MK Electric
Schneider Electric Ltd
Secure Meters (UK) Ltd
Siemens

BEVIP in 2012
The emerging electric vehicle market is currently at a critical phase. The vehicle technology has received international interest for many years, but only now is the mass commercialisation of this technology achievable. With the Plugged in Places projects now fully underway, and with emerging private infrastructure programmes, the integration and interoperability of the public and private charging assets within the built environment is of key importance and will determine the ongoing success of the industry. It is therefore important that support is provided for the industry in order to drive progress forward.

Since March 2011 BEVIP has provided a successful platform to work with government and industry on the development of technical standards and policy, and has established BEAMA as the leading UK association for focused activity on the removal of barriers in the EV infrastructure market. With this in mind, and BEAMA’s already prominent influence over UK and international policy, we are looking to expand membership in 2012.

Membership benefits of BEVIP

  • Influencing policy, regulations and standards, ensuring that your company’s interests are represented at the UK and European levels.
  • Access to committees and groups driving standards and regulations at a UK, European and international level. Provision of In-depth information, on a regular basis, on standardisation development – which will help position your business to capture more value from the emerging electric vehicle infrastructure market.
  • Insight into market regulations and developments across Europe, supporting your expansion into new markets.
  • Interaction with related cross-sector BEAMA activities under the same ‘smart energy’ umbrella. Including the BEAMA Smart Metering Association and Smart Grid Task Force.
  • Opportunities to develop relationships with key stakeholder groups including vehicle manufacturers, utilities and network operators.
  • Understanding of other industry group views and activities via BEAMA’s close relationships and collaborations with leading trade associations.
  • Awareness of and access to funding for pilot and research projects – which your technology may feed into.
