BEAMA Capacitor Manufacturers Association

The BEAMA Capacitor Manufacturers Association (BCMA) is an association whose member companies produce wound capacitors of film, paper or mixed dielectric construction, with or without solid foils, for operation on ac or dc systems having outputs generally in excess of 1.0 microfarad or 100 volts rms or dc. BCMA members join with international members of the industry in developing standards through IEC. BCMA also promote their technology in the UK through providing technical advice to potential customers and by advising Government of the advantages of PFC.

BCMA Objectives

 
  • To make recommendations to BEAMA on relevant matters relating to the industry
  • To maintain, assist and promote the home and export trade of members’ products
  • To promote and support research and developments that impact on To encourage maximum productivity and efficiency within the association
  • To promote and encourage standardisation of members’ products
  • To advise BEAMA on any matters of health and safety relating to the industry
  • To exchange information and statistics as approved by BCMA Council

Climate Change

The use of Power Factor Correction equipment reduces both power wastage (paid for by the user) and associated CO2 production.

BCMA members are active in identifying a reliable figure for CO2 reduction per k V Ar installed in preparation for discussion with relevant Government authorities and MPs.

Significant benefits within UK Carbon Saving programme are anticipated from this initiative.

However, BCMA members have noted the CO2 saving quoted on the website of Power Quality Management. The free CO2 calculator provided by PQM quotes a value (kg CO2 per k V Ar) which is attributed to BCMA. BCMA members advises all readers that the value given does not have their support. The BCMA considers that the figure shown by PQM is over-optimistic, misleading and unsubstantiated.

Membership

Members of BCMA are automatically members of BEAMA, meaning that all of BEAMA’s services; statistics, Legal advice, technical information and exhibitions, are available to BCMA members.

Any company or firm which has its principal place of business in the UK and manufactures any of the above products, or uses the products in a manufacturing process or in their components, is eligible for membership of BCMA.
