Day 1 |
Low Carbon Living - The Electric Vehicle Revolution |
| 1.30-2.00 | Arrival with coffee | |
| 2.00-2.15 |
Conference welcome and introduction |
| Speaker | BEAMA - Howard Porter, CEO | |
| 2.15-2.30 |
Electric Vehicles - the opportunity |
The UK is expected to have 1.5 million plug in vehicles by 2020, requiring a significant charging infrastructure. Hear about the market opportunities. |
| Speaker | SIEMENS - Phil Skipper, Director of Business Development E-Car. |
| 2.30-2.45 |
Batteries |
There are still significant hurdles to clear before a pure electric car is ready for mass production, with suppliers developing different battery solutions. While this technological competition breeds innovation there is a lack of standardisation in terms of charging technologies and protocols. This session outlines the latest issues. |
| Speaker | AXEON - George Paterson, Director of Sales | |
| 2.45-3.00 |
Grid infrastructure |
The transport sector has a strategic role in helping to meet the UK carbon reduction targets. Proposals to move away from petrol and diesel to electricity for transport will require: substantial new infrastructure of charging points connected to the electricity distribution networks and associated communication systems; and charging up vehicles outside peak demand periods to reduce the need to reinforce the networks. Electricity network companies are considering the implications of substantial growth in electric vehicles for investment, skills required, business structure and the environment. |
| Speaker | CENTRAL NETWORKS - Roger Hey, Energy Projects Manager | |
| 3.00-3.15 |
Connection Standards |
Standards are being developed at an EU level to ensure interoperable chargers to allow consumers to easily charge their vehicles across Europe, and to use the same charger for different brands of electric vehicles. |
| Speaker | CENELEC - David Dossett, President | |
| 3.30-4.00 | Coffee | |
| 4.00-4.20 |
What will the energy supply chain offer? |
Charging your Electric Vehicle will, at least for the next few years, require more planning than filling up at the local petrol station. What tariff offers are energy suppliers developing to: allow charging both at home and elsewhere; price signalling to charge at times of lower demand and allow interaction with domestic smart meters? |
| Speaker | SCOTTISH & SOUTHERN ENERGY- David Densley, Head of Sustainable Transport | |
| 4.20-4.40 |
Electric Vehicle trials |
The CABLED project is the largest of eight public trials taking place in the UK under the Technology Strategy Boards's £25 million Ultra Low Carbon Demonstrator programme. Find out how drivers are using and charging their vehicles in the real world and is range anxiety really a problem? |
| Speaker | ARUP - Christina Fell, Senior Engineer, Programme Manager, CABLED |
| 4.40-5.00 |
Q&A with session speakers |
| 5.00 | Close | |
| 5.00-6.00 |
Launch of BEAMA Electric Vehicle Infrastructure Project and Demonstrations of Ecotricity Nemesis and CABLED Electric Vehicles |
| Speaker | Office of Low Emission Vehicles - Michael Hurwitz, Director | |
| 7.00-7.30 |
Pre dinner drinks |
| 7.30 |
Dinner with speaker |
Delivering sustainable energyGet the business view of how sustainability issues are impacting on the production, sale and use of energy. What should be the role of the Green Investment Bank in stimulating the growth of green technology development and manufacturing? |
| Speaker | CBI - Rhian Kelly, Head of Climate Change |
