Industrial and Single Phase Products

BEAMA’s Industrial and Single Phase Products Group (ISPPG) is the largest of the installation sector’s specialist groups. It is comprised of those member companies who manufacture and supply products to be used in the following two broad categories of electrical installations –

  • Wiring Accessories and Circuit Protection for domestic and similar single phase ac installations
  • Industrial and Commercial single, two and three phase electrical installation equipment

The principal product categories encompassed by ISPPG are as listed below
(as existing list – ACB’s to Wiring Accessories, plus Boxes)

Within BEAMA’s installation section this Group is co-ordinated by a product committee on which all members who manufacture these products are entitled to sit. The management of technical issues relating to these products is further sub-divided and delegated to the following Technical Committees -

  • Accessories Technical Committee (A TC)
  • Low Voltage Circuit Breakers Technical Committee 1 (LVCB TC1)
  • Low Voltage Circuit Breakers Technical Committee 2 (LVCB TC2)
  • Switch and Fuse Gear Technical Committee (SwFg TC)
  • Industrial Plug & Socket Technical Committee (IPS TC)
  • Fuse Technical Committee (F TC)

ATC and LVCB TC1 are comprised of the representatives of members who manufacture equipment intended primarily for domestic and light commercial single phase ac electrical installations, including schools, hospitals etc, whereas LVCB TC2, SwFg TC and IPS TC are mainly concerned with installation equipment for industrial and commercial applications such as factories, offices and industrial plants. FTC is concerned with Fuses for all applications.

By means of this organisation structure the ISPPG Committee is able to maintain a good liaison over the wide range of activities of the product group whilst allowing each specific Technical Committee to be responsible for the detailed technical aspects of its own product category.

Each product TC in turn is able to create Working Groups (WG) or Task Forces (TF) to handle specific issues which arise. These TC’s are staffed by senior technical officers from our member companies. The work of a TC typically involves making recommendations to the industry and International bodies such as the British Standards Institute (BSI) concerning proposals for and amendments to British, European (CEN) and International (IEC) product standards within their TC competence, and also the preparation of BEAMA guidance documents and information on related technical matters. Often the Chairman of a BEAMA TC will also act as the BEAMA delegate to the appropriate BSI, CEN or IEC Product Committee. In many cases the BEAMA delegate also acts as the Convenor (Chairman) of these important groups.
