Thermostatic Mixing Valves

What is a Thermostatic Mixing Valve (TMV)?

TMVs accurately control water temperatures for bathing, showering and hand-washing. They maintain pre-set temperatures - even if water pressure varies when other appliances are used. TMVs can be fitted under baths and basins, be part of shower fittings, or as a feature of exposed hot and cold water mixers.

Who are The TMVA?

The Thermostatic Mixing Valve Manufacturers' Association (TMVA) addresses the issues concerned with thermostatic mixing and shower valves. It's aim is to concentrate attention on the safe provision of hot water at the point of use through:

  • Raising awareness of the dangers of scalding
  • Promoting awareness of TMV benefits in preventing potential scalding
  • Creating a forum for leading manufacturers to engender continuous product/application development to improve safety

TMVA provides technical/commercial guidance for building users, installers, specifiers and consumers. TMVA member companies offer a comprehensive range of thermostatic products approved under the BuildCert Scheme. This includes two thermostatic safety categories:

  • TMV2 approval is appropriate for domestic installations
  • TMV3 approval meets the stringent NHS Estates DO8 Standard appropriate for higher risk and healthcare installations
